Last weekend , a few of us did a man haul to the Wilkes Hut.This is a sled that the Huskis originally used to tow. Now all dogs have been removed from Antarctica , the lead dog is now a human !! We are now able to travel on the sea ice , and we spent Sunday measuring the thickness of the ice around eastern side if Newcomb bay. Posted by Picasa

Whilst heading to the Skiway , we dragged a beam to give the track a road like appearance. This smooths out the snow drifts , and allows other vechicles to travel the route in some semblence of comfort.Note Casey Station in the right of this picture. Posted by Picasa
A moon rise while above the Loken Moriane line. We came up to maintain the skiway sleds. The difference between the skiway and the runway , is that the planes can land near station on skis. Where as the Wikins blue ice runway is being constructed 70km away so that larger aircraft can land on wheels. Posted by Picasa

A rare treat on a near full moon , the most spectatular Aurora we have had yet so far this winter. This miracal of nature went on for way longer than I could stay outside. It was about -22 and the tripod had ice forming on it when I finally went inside. Posted by Picasa

ANZAC day . We celebrate ANZAC day in Antarctica , by having a dawn service , gunfire breakfast, and a few rousing games of two up.Normally we would all meet out at the flagpoles, raise the Australian Flag , followed by the New Zealand flag and also the English one as well. But this ANZAC day the winds were against us. It was blowing 60 knots , so we raised the Aussi flag up our climbingwall. "Lest We Forget"

The ice crystals in the air refract the light to form this Solar Pillar. An amazing way to finish up a Wednesday.
